MORE than 50,000 people came together in the heart of Newcastle for a joyful weekend of celebration and solidarity as Newcastle Pride returned on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July. Marking the first Newcastle Pride festival delivered by Curious Arts, this year’s celebrations brought the theme of City of Hope, Streets of Joy to life through a citywide programme of live entertainment, community spaces, creative activities and events championing LGBTQIA+ culture and talent. From community events and free festival zones to the Newcastle Pride Arena, Market Village and annual Pride March, the programme created opportunities for people of all ages to celebrate, connect and stand together. Ahead of the big festival, Pride fun included banner making workshops at Newcastle Cathedral ready for the Newcastle Pride March to heritage workshops ensuring all ages were catered to. A recap of the Pride weekend, Video by @tj.mov The weekend began with 10,000 community members, allies, families, local organisations and businesses joining the annual Newcastle Pride March. For the first time, the March followed a new route through the city centre, ending at Grey’s Monument, where huge crowds gathered for a series of powerful speeches delivered by North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness; Deputy Leader of Newcastle City Council, Councillor Mark Mitchell; UNISON Branch Secretary Christine Jackson and Green Party Councillor for Gateshead’s Bridges ward, Melissa Harker, the first openly trans councillor. Across the weekend, more than 3,000 people attended the Newcastle Pride Arena at Times Square for two days of unforgettable live music, drag and celebration. Festivalgoers enjoyed performances from a packed line-up of artists and Pride favourites, including pop icon Nadine Coyle, dance music favourite Katy B and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK icons Bimini and Danny Beard, alongside a whole host of Newcastle’s LGBTQIA+ creative community including live acts, DJs and performers. Free spaces across the city ensured that the celebrations offered something for everyone. The Family and Youth Zone at Newcastle Theatre Royal welcomed LGBTQIA+ families, children, young people and allies for a programme of creative and inclusive activities, while the Trans+ Zone created a dedicated space celebrating trans+ identities, creativity and community. The weekend came to a close on Sunday evening with a candlelit vigil, providing a moment for reflection and remembrance. A special dedication was made to everyone affected by the deadly attack at Berlin Pride over the same weekend. The vigil gave Newcastle’s LGBTQIA+ community and allies an opportunity to stand alongside the people of Berlin and send a clear message that hatred and violence will never diminish the community’s strength, visibility or pride. Thousands marched through the city centre. WITH less than a month to go until Newcastle Pride, Curious Arts has revealed a line-up of further sponsors supporting this year’s event. Following the announcement of its travel sector sponsors earlier this month, a host of North East businesses have joined the growing line up, partnering with the annual festival, which is delivered in partnership with NE1 and Newcastle City Council, to sponsor Pride zones across the city, spread the important shared message of ‘City of Hope, Streets of Joy’ and support and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community in Newcastle. Coming on board as the Outreach and Community Partner is trade union, UNISON, who will be in attendance leading on-the-ground engagement across the weekend, spreading a message of love and solidarity and helping promote positive conversations around diversity and equality. Pride Radio will once again be the Media Partner for the event, helping bring the music, local storytelling and good vibes to the festival weekend, broadcasting live from the celebrations. Newcastle Pride - Family & Youth Zone: Sunday 26 July, 10.30 am to 4.30 pm Newcastle Theatre Royal | Free to attend – drop in throughout the day Newcastle Theatre Royal has teamed up with Newcastle Pride to welcome families, children and young people as the festival returns to the heart of the city this summer. For the second year running, Newcastle Theatre Royal will host Newcastle Pride’s Family & Youth Zone, creating a vibrant, safe and inclusive space where LGBTQIA+ families, young people and allies can come together to connect and celebrate. The free drop-in programme will take place on Sunday, 26 July, from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm throughout the iconic Grey Street venue. City of Hope. Streets of Joy is the theme for Newcastle Pride 2026, which also sees the festival delivered for the first time by LGBTQIA+ arts, youth and heritage charity, Curious Arts. The Family & Youth Zone is supported by the Newcastle Cultural Investment Fund via Community Foundation North East, with wider activities across the weekend supported by Newcastle NE1, Newcastle City Council and Arts Council England. Families and young people visiting Newcastle Theatre Royal can expect a colourful day packed with creative activities, performances and interactive experiences designed to inspire joy, imagination and togetherness. In the Theatre’s Studio space, audiences can join singing sweetheart of the North, Gloria Love, for a fun-filled family karaoke sing-along featuring favourite songs for all ages, while acclaimed choreographer Darren Pritchard brings two performances of the dazzling Family Catwalk Extravaganza by Ghetto Fabulous. A Mini Disco, delivered in collaboration with Dance City, invites families to dance along to party anthems in an energetic shared celebration. Teen audiences aged 11–15 can also take part in Curious: Out & Loud!, an exhibition and creative workshop led by Newcastle’s Curious Young Creatives, celebrating LGBTQIA+ youth voices and creativity. Newcastle Pride launches Proud Bake Off fundraiser ahead of 2026 festival. Following a call to action last week, Newcastle Pride has unveiled its latest fundraising effort, and this time, it’s delicious! Workplaces, families, friends and community groups are being encouraged to take part in the Proud Bake Off throughout Pride Month in June, helping to raise vital funds for this year’s Newcastle Pride celebrations. The fundraising drive seeks to ensure that this year’s Pride festival can continue to deliver a safe, accessible, and high-quality event for the LGBTQIA+ community as planned, whilst ensuring that artists, freelancers, and community contributors are valued and paid. Participants are invited to host their own bake sales, cake competitions, or coffee mornings in June, with all proceeds supporting the festival, which will take place on July 25th and 26th. As part of the campaign, Newcastle Pride is encouraging individuals, community groups and businesses to support the event in a variety of ways, including donations, workplace fundraising, sponsorship opportunities, workshops and talks alongside participation in The march itself, all to help raise the much-needed £10,000 to fund this year’s celebrations. Following the success of 2025’s Pride Fringe, Newcastle Pride is BACK with an opportunity for local artists to get involved in our annual creative commission. In partnership with Creative Central NCL and Curious Futures (Curious Arts) , we’re looking for creatives to produce an event or create a legacy artwork which responds to Newcastle Pride 2026’s theme “City of Hope, Streets of Joy”. We’re offering TWO £2,500  creative commissions and TWO £750  Get Ready grants to help bring your vision to life. Whether you’re a performer, visual artist, writer, or activist - ALL art forms are welcome! The theme of “City of Hope, Streets of Joy” announced following extensive public consultation Newcastle Pride  will return to the heart of the city this summer, unveiling a powerful new theme and a refreshed vision shaped directly by the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community. At the official Newcastle Pride 2026 & Curious Futures Launch Business Breakfast  on Wednesday 11th March, Curious Futures   announced this year’s theme — “City of Hope, Streets of Joy”  — alongside the findings of a public consultation that will help shape the future of Newcastle Pride. Taking place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July 2026 , Newcastle Pride will once again transform the city centre into a vibrant celebration of LGBTQIA+ culture, creativity and community. The festival also marks an exciting new chapter, with Newcastle Pride now delivered by Curious Futures , the not-for-profit organisation established by Curious Arts  to deliver large-scale LGBTQIA+ cultural programmes across the North East. Newcastle Pride 2026 & Curious Futures Launch Business Breakfast Working in partnership with Newcastle NE1 , Newcastle City Council   and a wide network of local organisations and businesses, the festival will continue to build on the success of the city-wide Pride model introduced in recent years — bringing celebrations into venues, cultural spaces and public areas across Newcastle. A Theme Inspired by the Community: The theme “City of Hope, Streets of Joy”  reflects the celebration, sense of community and togetherness expressed by local LGBTQIA+ people and allies through an extensive consultation process. Curious gathered feedback from more than 150 responses online and 80 participants through in-person sessions , ensuring the voices of the community sit at the heart of Pride 2026. Across the consultation, several clear priorities emerged: Visibility and representation of LGBTQIA+ people across the city Opportunities to come together in celebration and solidarity A strong balance of joy and protest Free activities and family-friendly spaces that create a genuine sense of belonging A desire for live music, drag, performance and a Pride march or parade Increased access to wellbeing and mental health support services Stronger involvement from local businesses and organisations A celebration of Newcastle’s unique LGBTQIA+ identity Participants also spoke passionately about the power of community in the region. When asked what makes them proud to be LGBTQIA+ or an ally in the North East, respondents highlighted the strength of local connections and the ability to be authentically themselves. One participant said: “We have a fantastic community.” Another shared: “Being able to be myself, represent others, and the friendships and connections we’ve built.” The theme for 2026 captures these ideas — celebrating the city as a place of hope, while filling its streets with joy, visibility and shared Pride. Pride Launch Business Breakfast The theme and consultation results were revealed at the Newcastle Pride and Curious Futures Launch Business Breakfast , which brought together businesses, sponsors and community partners to celebrate the impact Pride has across the city. The event also explored how organisations can support LGBTQIA+ inclusion while playing an active role in the Newcastle Pride celebrations. Cllr Karen Kilgour, leader of Newcastle City Council, said:  “Newcastle Pride is a true highlight of the year and we are delighted to see it return this summer. We’ve worked with Newcastle Pride for 17 years and are really proud of the positive impact it has each year on the city and local people. Pride shows the very best of who we are as a city – one that is welcoming and one that stands up for one another – and this year’s theme really amplifies our famous Geordie spirit.  “In the current climate, allyship is more important than ever, as the responsibility for equality should not sit on the shoulders of the LGBTQIA+ community. For 2026, the Trans Zone and Curious Arts Zone will come together at Northern Stage, creating a new shared cultural space dedicated to trans voices, LGBTQIA+ creativity and community connection. The programme will feature performances, talks and opportunities to meet local organisations and artists. Other zones and experiences will return across the city centre, alongside the popular Market Village, community activity spaces and family-friendly programming designed to ensure Pride remains accessible to all. A Partnership for the City Newcastle NE1  continues its role as a key partner for Pride, supporting delivery across the city centre and helping businesses engage with the celebrations. Looking Ahead to Pride 2026 With tens of thousands of people expected to attend , Newcastle Pride 2026 promises another landmark celebration for the city — combining music, culture, activism and community. Curious Futures is also calling on the LGBTQIA+ community to shape the future of pride with a consultation that closes this week. Excitement is already building for this summer’s Newcastle Pride, with major names confirmed today for the festival weekend in Newcastle City Centre on 25th and 26th July 2026. Star-studded headliners in The Pride Arena this year include Northern Irish star of Girls Aloud, Nadine Coyle , London chart-topper, Katy B, and Scouse drag icon and Rupaul’s Drag Race UK alumni, Danny Beard and Bimini. Manchester collective Ghetto Fabulous will also bring high-energy to The Pride Arena this July, while 90s pop-dance favourites Urban Cookie Collective will deliver their classic hits. Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle will be headlining this years pride! For Newcastle, the LGBTQIA+ community and allies across the North East are being urged to have their say on the future of Newcastle Pride, as public consultation is set to close on Friday, 13th February 2026. Urban Cookie Collective, who are performing at this years pride! Following the closure of Northern Pride charity, Curious Futures , the trading arm of Curious Arts , took custodianship of Newcastle Pride in December 2025. With just six months until this year’s festival, the team says community voices must shape every decision and invite everyone to turn up and take part.   The organisation is urging individuals to share their thoughts on how Newcastle Pride, and its programme, will be shaped. Consultations have also been held with leisure and hospitality venues, businesses and charities across the region, with the findings to be published in the coming months.    Organisers say transparency and collaboration are central to the next chapter, and that Pride must reflect the people it represents.   Phil Douglas, chief executive of Curious Arts, said: “Delivering a Pride of this scale in today’s financial and political climate is no small task. Community and stakeholder consultations will help shape everything we do, from programming and accessibility to long-term sustainability. We want to hear from everyone in our community, from individuals, creatives, allies and local businesses to families, young people and long-standing Pride attendees. Northern Pride today announces that it will hand over the Newcastle Pride Festival to Curious Futures, the new trading subsidiary of the charity Curious Arts.  This exciting move builds on years of partnership working between Northern Pride and Curious Arts and their instrumental co-delivery of the 2025 event. After 17 years of development and growth, Newcastle Pride has become one of the largest Pride events in the UK. Frequently asked questions are at the end of this article. After the successful 2025 festival, and with heartfelt thanks to the community, partners, and donors, the trustees, along with voluntary Director Ste Dunn, have been able to close all outstanding commitments and is donating its closing balance of £8,500, along with all physical and digital assets to Curious Arts. The charity, Northern Pride, has therefore ceased trading with immediate effect.   These funds and assets will be used to help plan the 2026 Festival weekend, scheduled for 25-26 July 2026. Regular attendees will notice a slight change in dates for the 2026 event, as organisers have moved it one week later to avoid clashing with the World Cup final weekend. This adjustment prioritises community safety and ensures the city-wide celebration can go ahead smoothly without placing additional strain on city services, including emergency services. Further details about the Festival weekend,  including the free programme, dedicated zones and a range of activities, will be released in the new year, whilst tickets for the Pride Arena at Times Square are now on sale. Over 70,000 people engaged with the joy of Pride over the course of the festival Over 16,500 people marched through the heart of the city  Northern Pride Arena welcomed thousands of attendees despite the rain Eight free festival activities and zones filled the city centre  16 fringe events celebrated LGBTQIA+ culture and community Over 70,000 people engaged with the joy of Pride during this year’s festival, which returned to the heart of the city centre with its message of being ‘unapologetically visible’.    Supporting a positive impact on the LGBTQIA+ community, the Newcastle Pride Festival, which kicked off earlier this year with Pride Fringe and culminated in the weekends celebration was a mark of success, come rain or shine.  From the party atmosphere which saw revellers dancing in the rain at the Pride Arena to cultural moments across the Free Festival Zones and the chance to support LGBTQIA+ creators at the Market Village, there was something for all ages. Across the weekend performers including Pixie Lott, Gok Wan and drag queens and kings provided showstopping entertainment and kept the party spirits high.   The Pride March kicked off the weekend’s main events, with over 16,500 people coming together to fill the streets of Newcastle with a colourful message of hope.   The annual LGBTQIA+ celebration carried the theme of ‘ Unapologetically Visible ’ and was presented in partnership with Newcastle NE1, Newcastle City Council and The North East Combined Authority.  Cllr Alex Hay, Deputy Leader of Newcastle City Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services,  said: "This was a fantastic weekend for our city. Newcastle Pride is getting ready to welcome thousands of festivalgoers across the city centre for a weekend of celebrations (19 and 20 July).  Building on the success of last year’s event, which moved into the heart of Newcastle and saw record numbers with over 82,000 people engaging with the joy of pride, exciting new additions have been introduced for 2025.  Attendees can expect a bigger and better main stage, an exclusive VIP area, an amazing lineup of artists and new venues hosting exciting zones across the city. The annual LGBTQIA+  celebration will carry the theme of ‘ Unapologetically Visible ’  and is presented in partnership with Newcastle NE1, Newcastle City Council and the North East Combined Authority. The full festival weekend includes… Newcastle Pride Arena: There will be an updated layout at Times Square, including the main stage hosted by the legendary Miss Rory, Plastiq and Paris Munro , and a new second stage which will play host to a Dance and Cabaret Zone . Pride March: The annual Pride March is at the centre of the festival weekend and will see thousands of community members, allies, local people and businesses come together to fill the streets of Newcastle with a colourful message of hope. This years March will be dedicated to the Trans+ community, and will begin at 12pm, starting from the Civic Centre, then head down John Dobson Street, before returning to the usual route on Blackett Street then finally onto Percy Street, before ending back at the Civic Centre to continue the celebrations across the city centre for the rest of the weekend.  Due to the ongoing development of Northumberland Street, the difficult decision was made to change the route for this year, to ensure maximum safety of all attendees with the continued works on the street and associated risks. Transport and accessibility: Nexus is the official travel and accessibility partner for 2025, underscoring Newcastle Pride’s commitment to ensuring that everyone can enjoy this year’s festivities, regardless of ability.  The entire festival is fully wheelchair accessible, with all official partner venues equipped with step-free access and essential accessibility services, including disabled toilets. This extends to all festival zones and the Pride Arena. Several partner venues will also offer quiet spaces, for those that need some time away from the celebrations. To ensure everyone can experience the magic of the weekend’s performances, British Sign Language interpreters (BSL) will be present at the Main Stage, Curious Arts Stage and Trans+ Cabaret performances.  A free shuttle bus will return this year with thanks to Nexus. Newcastle Pride announces that this year’s Pride march will be proudly dedicated to the trans+ community, offering a message of hope , solidarity, and a call to action to end discrimination and challenge the rolling back of hard-fought rights for the trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse community.  In line with Newcastle Pride’s theme for 2025, ‘ Unapologetically Visible’ , the march is set to be attended by thousands of LGBTQIA+ community members, allies and business owners this July. The march has been able to be kept free and open to all thanks to partners like Newcastle International Airport.  The annual march will start from the Civic Centre at 12.00pm on Saturday 19 July, where attendees will walk down John Dobson Street. The march will then loop around to Blackett Street and Percy Street, heading back to the Civic Centre ahead of the celebrations and live entertainment commencing across the city.  This year's pride march map! These marches are not just celebrations; they are vital acts of visibility, resistance, and solidarity.
